Year: 06. 2013

Size:  400 x 400 x 1700mm

Note: First semester work of my light project in the Transitional Certificate study for MFA in Elam school of fine arts.

These photos only show the still effect of the light in the box, the actual light in the work slowly turns on to turns off. It means that the light changes from brightness to darkness continuously as a circle and it is like a deep breath.

Artist Statement:

My intension is to use light to reflect that time is passing. I was inspired by the sunlight. Because we notice that time is passing when we see the sunlight changing from brightness to darkness.

In my first semester project, I have used different materials to investigate my idea. For instance, transferring my photographic image to oil painting, printing photography on different kinds of paper, painting watercolour on photograph on watercolour paper, painting acrylic on the canvas raw side and printing photograph on the samecanvas opposite side, making installation with readymade products. I believe that all the experiments can help me to understand and develop my project. Up to now, I found that I could use box to express my idea.

In my project, I use wooden box to reflect human being's body. I think that wood is a natural object as our body, so I choose wood as the box structure material. And the boxes are covered by paper and canvas, because I think these materials can reflect our skin or they are like the veil to hide the living secret. I put different kinds of light in my boxes, because I believe that light can be related to time, power, emotion and life. It can enhance my idea.

In my works, I want to achieve when the viewers see my works, they will think there is something that seems like living thing inside the boxes. It means that they can get the reflection between their bodies and the work's body to think about life. But when they realize what is inside the boxes, they can think that life is simple.
