Artist Statement:

The idea of this project came from the Maori word 'Aotearoa'. The common translation is 'the land of the long white cloud'.

Thework is my personal impression and expression about the phrase and New Zealand. The colour blue, green and brown represent the blue sky, the green land and the fertile earth in New Zealand. The long white cloud is one of the most unforgettable scenery during my living time here, because it makes me to image thekiwi family daily life, it should be relax and enjoyable.

The work is a free handmade drawing in using white gel pen on colour paper, becauseI want to keep my drawing to be more unaffected. It reflects New Zealand is acountry that has a great tradition to protect and balance the natural environment and human being.

My drawing follows the traditional drawing rule that is to use simple lines todepict objects. Minimalism influenced me using the simplest and fewest elementsto create the maximum effect. My interpretation of the maximum effect in mywork is that I use the simple colour and lines to express the personal impression of a country. The colour field painting inspired me to less emphasis ongesture, brush strokes and action in favour of colouras an individual subject in artwork. So the colour in my work is an independentobject to represent the existence object, for instance sky, mountain and earth.
